DELIVERANCE FROM WITCHCRAFT

 

 

At the beginning of this lesson it needs to be said that witchcraft is practiced by much of our world and has caused much problems and distress.  Witchcraft in its’ base form is worship of the Devil or Satan.  If you are involved in witchcraft in any form I pray that this lesson will open your eyes to see the dangers in this life and in eternity.  I would like to suggest another study titled “Demonic Oppression” as a supplement to this lesson for your help and information.  Thanks for stopping by, let’s get started!

 

The Nature of Satan

 

Satan is known in the Bible as a liar.

 

“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” John 8:44

 

Jesus spoke of him in no uncertain terms and when we look at the beginning we can see what he said was true.  From the very beginning he has been a liar and deceiver.  His goal is to deceive mankind and cause them to be lost for eternity.  To do this he must twist and turn the Word of God so it looks different and appealing.  This is what he did to Eve in the garden of Eden.  God had given Adam and Eve a commandment that they could eat anything in the garden except the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.  God told them that the day they ate of it they would die.  From the time he told them this till they met Satan all was well and Adam and his wife had a great relationship with God.  All was beautiful in paradise until…  Enter the serpent (Satan).  The words dripped from his reptilian lips like butter and honey but in realty were designed to destroy.

 

“And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: [5] For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” Genesis 3:4-5

 

It was all a lie.  Nothing could have been farther from the truth but because of the great temptation and lust of Eve, she ate of the fruit and gave to her husband and he ate.  When this happened mankind fell from the sweet relationship with God and went headlong into sin and yes even into witchcraft or worship of Satan.  They were thrown out of the garden and lived their lives outside of Gods’ blessings.  Something else happened when they gave themselves over to the Devil.

 

Satan Was a Murderer From the Beginning

 

“…He was a murderer from the beginning… John 8:44

 

When we look at the beginning, which was the time that Adam and Eve began their family, we can see problems developing with their two sons, Cain and Abel.  The problem that arose was over a sacrifice that they offered to God.  One was accepted-Abel and the other rejected-Cain.  Because of the Satanic influence that began in the garden Cain took this as a personal matter and killed his own brother.  God had intended for man to live in peace and harmony but because of his rebellion and disobedience, Demonic influences were allowed in.  Cain’s murder of his brother must have been the result of Demonic influence because from the beginning Satan was a murderer.  In the end, the judgment that came to Cain for his actions, caused him to cry out in anguish and despair.

 

“And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear.” Genesis 4:13

 

This is always the result of witchcraft and Demon worship.  When you put your life into the hands of a liar and murderer you cannot expect good results to take place.  This is true for an individual, family or nation.  Many nations are filled with the practice of Demon worship.  Untold homes and lives have been destroyed by this diabolic deceiver.

 

Question #1.  If you are familiar with the practice of witchcraft or Demon worship can you think of anything good that comes from it other than the gratification of fleshly desires?

 

The Lure of Witchcraft and Demon Worship

 

We must first look at the root of witchcraft in order to understand the powerful lure that it has upon so many people.  The Bible tells us that it comes from a desire for our flesh to be satisfied.  Witchcraft and Demon worship appeal to immoral lusts and passions.  Things that are common in witchcraft circles are sexual promiscuity, drug use, criminal activity, and murder.  Witchcraft is not limited to these alone.  A great host of ways that have been proven to destroy lives are associated with this deviant spiritual activity. 

 

“Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, [20] Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” Galatians 5:19-20

 

The Apostle Paul listed witchcraft as a work of the flesh.  Let’s look at the things associated with it so we can understand why it is so attractive today.  Eve was tempted by the serpent and gave in because there were three things listed that made the tree irresistible to her.

 

“And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.” Genesis 3:6

 

First she saw that the tree was good for food.  No doubt she was hungry and the fruit on this tree was beautiful in her sight.  She imagined what it would taste like and finally she cold take it no more.  She gave in and ate of it.  This is what the Devil uses to tempt man today.  He uses the lust of the flesh, the desires of the flesh to draw people away from God and his ways.  (Remember, the tree of life was not far off.  It could have given them eternal life but they chose the tree of death instead.)  Witchcraft approves of and promotes, fornication, adultery, hatred, rebellion, uncleanness, lasciviousness[lewd or lustfulness], drunkenness, drugs, revelry [the party spirit], and many other like things.  These things feel good for the moment but have terrible consequences sometimes even physical death. 

 

Secondly, she saw that the tree was pleasant to the eyes.  The Devil uses visual images to excite the flesh and draw man away from his rightful place with God. These visual images include immodestly dressed people, pornography, child pornography, television [which bombards people with images of adultery, sexual immorality, drunkenness, thefts, murders and many other things that cannot bless anyone.], glorification of smoking and drinking, movies where sex and drugs are glorified and many other such like things.  To put it mildly, the Devil has been very successful at attracting humanity away from the source of life, Jesus Christ.

 

Thirdly, she saw that the tree would make her wise.  Last but not least, the Devil uses the pride of man to draw him away.  Witchcraft teaches that through the power of séances, tarot cards, horrorscopes, and such like experiences that man can become more wise and can have power.  Yet, the power he gives comes with a price, eternal death without Jesus Christ.  Pride is spoken of in the Bible as something destructive.  We have nothing to boast of because we are dependant upon God for everything. 

 

All of these three aspects of witchcraft have been put together in one scripture that explains where they come from and where they are headed.  Read this and ask yourself, “Is this what I really want?”

 

“For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. [17] And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” 1 John 2:16-17

 

Witchcraft, its’ associated activities and those who participate in it are doomed for an eternity without God.  There is a better way.  If you are involved in witchcraft even in a mild entry level form, you can find true happiness and peace not through Satan but through Jesus Christ and the infilling of his Spirit.  Gods’ kingdom does not depend on the flesh being satisfied, it depends on the soul being satisfied.  When the soul is happy, the whole person is happy.

 

“For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.” Romans 14:17

 

Question #2.  Explain in your own words why witchcraft is appealing to many people.

 

The Deceit of Witchcraft and Demon Worship

 

As it is with all ways of error, the main foundation has to be lies.  The same is true with witchcraft, it is full of deceit and lies.  The Devil told Eve that she would not die.

 

“And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:”

Genesis 3:4

 

To deceive man for eternity he must come up with many lies that make sense or use logic as its’ foundation.  Proof is not important, only tantalizing images of something that really does not exist.  One part of witchcraft is bringing up the dead for answers or communication with loved ones.  The Bible clearly condemns this because it is not based on truth.  Remember, Satan is a liar and cannot tell the truth.  Often times people who are deceived themselves will use witchcraft as a means of power and money.  This is brought out in the life of one Simon the sorcerer [magic].  Yet we will see his witchcraft and magic could not stand against the power of the Apostles who were filled with the Holy Ghost.

 

“But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one: [10] To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God. [11] And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.” Acts 8:9-11

 

Simon’s power and affluence that came to him through witchcraft came tumbling  down when one man came to the city and began to preach Jesus Christ.  This is very telling because some people think witchcraft is the power of God just as the people thought Simon had the power of God.  The power of God comes only through the Spirit of God.  When the people were baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of their sins the power of this great man was completely gone and he attempted to buy the power of God from the Apostles.  Witchcraft and Demon worship pale in comparison to the power of Gods’ Spirit.  Simon was a liar and had deceived the people because he was influenced by Demon spirits.  God has the truth for all of mankind, the Devil is a liar and is not to be trusted at all.  Simon’s sorceries came to a screeching halt when the Holy Ghost was poured out on the entire city. 

 

“Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.” Acts 8:17

 

Notice in the next verses how quickly he submitted himself to the Apostles.

 

“And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, [19] Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost. [20] But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. [21] Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. [22] Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee. [23] For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity. [24] Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me.” Acts 8:18-24

 

Question #3.  Why does Satan have to lie in order to get people to follow him?

 

Deliverance from the Power of Satan

 

Satan is no match for the power of Gods’ Spirit.  He must obey the word of God for it has authority over him.  If you have been or are presently involved in witchcraft there is a way out.  It doesn’t matter how far along you are; deliverance is not far away.  It won’t come through counseling or medication it can only come through the delivering power of God.  This is brought out in the demon possessed man who lived in the country of the Gadarenes.  The Bible records that he was possessed with a legion of demons [2000].  He was at the extreme end of demon possession, ran naked in the tombs and could be tamed by no man.  All it took was a word from the master, Jesus Christ and he was delivered!

 

“And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs. [28] When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not. [29] (For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.) [30] And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him. [31] And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep. [32] And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them. [33] Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked.” Luke 8:27-33

 

Notice after the fact that he was found clothed and in his right mind.

 

“Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.” Luke 8:35

 

There is a better way.  Witchcraft may seem innocent at first as many have testified, but as it progresses it begins to take hold and will not let go.  Many are afflicted today by demon spirits and feel no way out.  Many countries are filled predominantly with witchcraft and have no way to get out.  The good news is there is freedom from demon possession and oppression.  Jesus said that his followers would be able to cast out devils. 

 

“And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;” Mark 16:17
