More Prophecies That Prove the Validity of the Bible

Let’s look at another prophecy written approximately 1000 years before the death of Jesus Christ.

“For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. [17] I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me. [18] They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.”  Psalm 22:16-18 (KJV)

This prophesy is very direct and concise.  How could he know except that God had inspired his words?

“Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout. [24] They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.”  John 19:23-24 (KJV)

And again the prophecy of his hands and feet being pierced and proof that it happened by eye witnesses who described it.

“For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.” Psalm 22:16 (KJV)

“The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. [26] And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. [27] Then saith he to Thomas, reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. [28] And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.” John 20:25-28 (KJV)

It has been calculated what the odds would be for just 17 Old Testament prophecies concerning Jesus Christ alone.  The number is astounding.

1 chance in 480 billion x 1billion x 1 trillion.  When in fact there are over 300 prophecies concerning Jesus Christ alone.

You might ask, “What does this mean?”  It simply but profoundly proves that the Bible is the word of God and that it can be trusted as the source of truth.  If we were to take the time to look at the other religions of the world and their religious writings we would find no prophesies in any of them.  Does that tell you something?

If the evidence so far seems astounding just add to it the mathematical perfection of the Bible and you have a book that is supernatural and unmatched by any other in human history.  In the late 1800’s Dr. Ivan Panin a noted mathematician of his time discovered an amazing mathematical pattern in the scriptures of the New and Old Testament.   The Old Testament is written in Hebrew and the New Testament in the  Greek language.  Both of these languages are known as alpha numeric.  Simply put, this means that each letter is also a number.  Every letter has a numeric as well as an alphabetic value.  Dr. Panin discovered that throughout the entirety of the Bible the number seven appears.  For example, he took the first verse of the Bible Genesis 1:1 (KJV) In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.  He discovered some amazing and phenomenal patterns of sevens.

Grant R. Jeffrey in his book the “Signature of God”  gives us his findings.

1.  The number of Hebrew words. Seven

The number of letters equals 28 (28 divided by 4 = 7)

The first three words translated “In the beginning God created” contain 14 letters (14 divided by 2 = 7)

The last four Hebrew words “the heavens and the earth” have 14 letters (14 divided by 2 = 7)

The fourth and fifth words have seven letters.

The sixth and seventh words have seven letters.

The three key words: God; heaven and earth have fourteen letters. (14 divided by 2 = 7)

The number of letters in the four remaining words is also 14 (14 divided by 2 = 7)

The middle word is the shortest with two letters.  However, in combination with the word to the right or the left it totals seven letters.

The numeric value of the first, middle, and last letters is 133 (133     divided by 19 = 7)

The numeric value of the first and last letters of all seven words is 1393 (1393 divided 199 = 7)

Ivan Panin challenged the professors of his day to write any paragraph as mathematically perfect as the Bible and with the aid of computers they were not able to even come close.  No one to my knowledge has ever done so.  If God were to write a book wouldn’t it be supernatural and unlike any other book?  The above mathematical patterns were tried with many other writings and none were found to contain the perfection mathematically of the Bible.  For more study on this subject I would refer you to Dr. Panins book “The Inspiration of the Scriptures Scientifically Demonstrated.”  If this were not enough to convince the skeptic, God in his wisdom added even more head scratching to the situation.

The Jewish sages stated that they knew of a hidden text found in the Holy Scriptures.  Upon close examination they indeed found that words were written in the text with the letters of the words spelled at different intervals.  For example, if we were to look for the word Myrtle (after the name of the tree) we would look for the first letter “M” and then moving through the text find the letter “y”.  If these two letters were 5 characters apart all we would have to do is go five more letters and find the letter” r” and so on until the entire word is spelled out.  This was tried out in Genesis chapter 2.  It records the story of the Garden of Eden.  In this chapter alone they found twenty five Hebrew names for trees spelled out at different intervals.  A text behind the text.  Wow!  Is there any book in the history of human existence that can boast of such things?  The answer is no.

Question #5.  Can you think of any book that can boast of such perfection mathematically as has been discovered in the Bible?

What does this say about the Bible and its’ reliability?  It says that we can go to it for answers.  It means that we can trust in it in so many more ways than we have time to go into here.

Question #6.  Please let me know how you feel about this lesson. Has it helped you to start down the road of finding truth in the Bible?

As you focus on freedom it is important to focus on truth as the source of your freedom.  The Word of God is that source of truth.  We pray that this site has been a blessing to you.  Please let us know what we can do to make it even better.  Also, if this lesson has blessed you, tell a friend!  Thanks for taking the time to go through this study and may God bless you.

I really enjoyed the lesson, and the book “The Signature of God” by Grant R. Jeffery is well worth reading.

I recently thought about an issue which may seem worth the task of clarifying. There are many different laws in the Old Testament which seem rather harsh and cruel to us today such as Deuteronomy 22:18 where it talks about stoning a rebellious child? This one law seems rather harsh and would land a lot of parents in jail nowadays. There are other laws which seem very harsh and cruel in the Old Testament which seem to contradict modern justice and punishments. The Old Testament seems very harsh and merciless to the violators of its laws. The New Testament seems to be a display of more mercy and forgiveness than the Old Testament. Jesus talked a lot about forgiveness and mercy. The Ten Commandments are very strong laws which reflect our western values as a foundation for our government. There are also laws which talk about things which are abominations to God. For example; Deuteronomy 18:11 -12, it condemns spiritualism and states all that do so are an abomination to the Lord. Where do we draw the line between, Old Testament laws, the New Testament laws and the abominable laws which seem like they contradict one another. Which may confuse some when reading the bible. What are the difference between the Mosiac laws, ceremonial laws, moral laws and the laws which deal with abominations? What did Jesus have to say about some of the laws during his day? Which laws of the Bible are applicable to us today?
